UC San Diego Summer Intern Housing Program

UC San Diego Summer 2023 welcomes student interns and visiting scholars!

University of California, San Diego will have apartments in John Muir College available for students looking for housing accommodations during the summer.

The UCSD campus is within close proximity to 3 famous San Diego beaches, La Jolla Shores, Blacks and North Torrey Pines! The campus is located in beautiful La Jolla Shores and a short distance from the neighboring areas of Del Mar and Pacific Beach, with plenty of sunshine to experience! 



Summer interns will receive a private, single occupancy bedroom in a shared apartment (max of 4 people per apartment). Apartments include full-size kitchens with appliances, including a stove, refrigerator and microwave. Bedroom includes wardrobe, dresser and desk and desk chair. Complimentary Wi-Fi, on-site laundry facilities (laundry cards are required for use and can be purchased at the conference desk), weekly housekeeping of common areas, and trash removal are also included in your stay. Rate: $53.00/night

The Neighborhood

Summer intern housing will be located in John Muir neighborhood located on the central west part of campus. Buildings are organized around a series of large outdoor spaces, terraces, and promenades, allowing guests to enjoy San Diego’s temperate climate and create a sense of community. Casual outdoor seating and open grass areas are all conveniently located nearby, as well as the RIMAC recreation facility where you can enjoy a workout with a purchased Rec Pass. Torrey Pines State Beach/Natural Reserve and Torrey Pines Glider Port and Golf Course are just a short walk away.

On Campus

Summer Intern Housing is located next to Pines, a residential dining facility, which offers an all-you-care-to eat menu in the summer. Meals can be purchased only via credit card as UC San Diego is completely cashless (Apple Pay available). The Restaurants at Sixth in the new North Torrey Pines Living and Learning Neighborhood offers a number of platforms, from fresh noodles, grain bowls and BBQ. Sixth Market located just below the Restaurants will be available for grab and go options, as well as a full espresso bar and a selection of groceries for purchase. Located in Central Campus is the Price Center which boasts a variety of options such as Jamba Juice, Lemongrass Farm, Subway, Starbucks and more.

Off Campus

San Diego has no shortage of amazing food. Less than 10 minutes away you will find the Westfield UTC mall which is home to over 60 casual and specialty dining locations. Grocery stores such as Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, and Ralphs are a short bus ride away if you prefer to prepare your own meals. Otherwise close by neighborhoods of Del Mar, Mira Mesa and Pacific beach have many restaurants showcasing San Diego's diverse cuisine!

Transportation and Parking

UC San Diego is within 5 miles of La Jolla Shores, La Jolla Village, and Westfield UTC mall, providing ample opportunities for water activities, dining, entertainment, and shopping. Public transportation from campus includes UC San Diego shuttles, MTS buses and the newly operational Trolley Blue line which spans from the Mexico border through downtown San Diego and all the way north to several stops in the UC San Diego campus and UTC area.

Other forms of available transportation include: Spin Bikes / Scooters, ZipCar, Uber / Lyft, and more.

With the various forms of public transportation, a car is not necessary to explore San Diego. If you are bringing a car to campus, permits can be purchased online or through the Park Mobile app for daily, weekly or monthly options.

Eligibility, Terms, and Conditions

  • All guests must be 18 years or older.
  • Proof of eligibility such a letter of acceptance from your internship is required to complete the application process.
  • All stays must be booked for a minimum of two weeks.
  • Reservations must be made at least 7 days in advance to the stay.
  • Standard check-in time is 4pm and check-out is at 11am.
